Cat in the hat toddler costume pottery barn $50

I was a bit shocked and disappointed that the Cat in the Hat costume only comes in boys sizes - but then I thought, "Oh well, this is the first one we've gotten." We didn't really know what we were going to dress the kids up as - and we had been trying to decide between the cat, the monkey and the hat! So when we saw this, we thought "why not?" And for the first time in a long time we have a cute costume for both of the kids!

I love that this costume is just a regular old plastic hat - no headpiece. We bought this from Pottery Barn for $50. I think that we could easily make our own for less, and would be a lot better quality. But for $50, I would take it!

Adorable costume! I saw this on pinterest and wanted to get one for my niece too. I'm glad you shared how simple it is. I'll be shopping around for a DIY version next time.

I made my costume with my 2-year-old's school Halloween kit. I bought the hat from Michael's (for $1.99), the black tights and leggings from Wal-Mart ($5.99 for all three), the cat ears from a craft store ($1.25), and the pink shirt from Ross for $4.99. I also ordered the black and purple striped shirt from Target.com and the purple gloves from an Etsy shop (both for $5.99). I sewed my skirt, I had already bought. For the pants, I sewed in the legs and glued on the pockets. My niece wore this for the first time on Halloween and everyone asked her who she was.

I made my cat costume out of an old baseball hat, tights, and a long shirt. It was fun and took about an hour.

I love how this is so easy and it cost very little. I'm thinking about making it for my 2.5 year old son and making it a 2 year old version because he can walk but the little hat is big.

Love this. I have made a cat costume for each of my kids in the past. The only trouble is finding the ears! I've also made a little monkey and two hats.

How much did you spend on the outfit and is there a link to it?

I really like the idea of this costume! It would be great for a younger child as you can make it with little pieces and they can play dress-up with it too. I made this costume when my daughter was younger and I think it was a lot of work but I really like the look of it and she still remembers it.

Thank you for sharing this idea! It is a great price and the kids really loved it. I just wanted to say I love this idea because we couldn't find a boy's costume in any stores and you have made one that I could easily make and my daughter wore it for the first time on Halloween!

I love this idea! I am a sucker for cat hats, and this would be cute with the boys. I didn't really need the tights and I'm thinking of making a girls version too. Thank you for the idea!

Thanks! I was surprised that the boys' cat costuming is such a hit. I have a cat hat that has been a staple for the past few years!
